How to time a speech

Most people speak between 120 and 160 words per minute when presenting. A slower, more deliberate pace - around 110-130 wpm - reads as calm and authoritative, while anything above 170 wpm starts to feel rushed to an audience. To time your speech, paste your full script above, set your target duration, and pick the pace that matches your natural delivery.

If the estimate runs long, don't just talk faster - cut words instead. Tight, well-paced speeches almost always beat rushed, overstuffed ones. Aim to land a few seconds under your target so you have room to breathe.
