How to write a wedding toast

A great wedding toast follows a simple arc: introduce yourself and how you know the couple, share one specific story that captures who they are, connect that story to what makes their relationship special, and close with a warm wish and a raised glass. Keep it to two or three minutes - the best toasts are short, personal, and heartfelt rather than a highlight reel.

One vivid, true story beats a list of generic compliments every time. Avoid inside jokes only a few people will get, steer clear of anything embarrassing, and end on the couple rather than on yourself. Fill in the prompts above for a first draft, then rewrite it in your own voice and rehearse it out loud.
