How long should an interview answer be?

The sweet spot for a behavioral interview answer is 90 seconds to two minutes. Shorter than a minute and you probably have not given enough detail to be convincing; longer than two and you risk rambling and losing the interviewer. The STAR method - Situation, Task, Action, Result - keeps you on track by giving your answer a clear arc.

Spend most of your time on Action and Result - that is where you show what you actually did and the impact it had. Keep Situation and Task brief; they are just context. Practice with real questions and a timer until the rhythm feels natural, and always close with a concrete, quantified result.
